Crib Point Berth 1 Upgrade Project

The Port of Hastings Corporation (PoHC) is constructing a berthing dolphin at Berth 1 of the Crib Point Jetty within Western Port. This is the berth that United petroleum currently use to import State-critical fuel supplies. The project will increase the safety standards of the Berth and allow heavier vessels access with more berthing flexibility. Brady Marine have been appointed as Contractor for the works that are anticipated to commence at the end of August 2021 and be completed by the end of December 2021. Project status updates can be found below.

Consent for use and development of coastal Crown land from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning to commence work relating to these works was received on 12th April 2021.

Project Update 15/03/2022

Practical completion for the project was issued on the 11th March 2022. The works barge is currently being prepared for demobilisation, scheduled for the 18th March 2022.

Minor rectification works are underway and are expected to be completed by 16th March 2022.

Project Update 01/03/2022

The last concrete pour for the berthing dolphin was completed last night. They started at 11pm and finished about 8.30am. The pour was done overnight as the ambient temperatures are lower, and the chemical reaction that occurs when the concrete constituents are mixed together generates a fair bit of heat. With a big pour, you don’t want too much heat as it caused too much shrinkage. The pour all went well. We are getting close to completion of the dolphin.

The last concrete pour has been completed and the next activities will be placement of the fender and quick release hook units.

Project Update 15/02/2022

The first two concrete pours are complete and planning is underway for the next two pours which will happen over the next 2-3weeks. The final pour may be undertaken overnight.

Project Update 08/02/2022

The concrete tub has been landed in position and concreting work has commenced to progressively fill up pile plugs and the pile cap

Project Update 02/02/2022

The pre-cast tub has been placed in position and concrete infill works will commence shortly

Project Update 27/01/2022

The precast concrete tub was successfully lifted into place on Monday 24/1/2022 for the new berthing dolphin at Crib Point. This was a 60 tonne lift and had to be positioned within a tight tolerance so it landed on the supporting piles in the correct position.
The next step is to fill the tub with concrete and then install the fenders and quick release hooks on it.

Work is ongoing in regard to installation of pile reinforcement and preparation for placement of precast concrete tub.
